Reason Along app privacy policy
Effective from 2026-10-25.
This pre-launch notice describes Reason Along 0.2.0 development source. The app is not yet available on the App Store. The notice will be checked against the release before submission.
This policy explains how Redstone Services Limited handles information in connection with the Reason Along iOS app. It covers the app, not general visits to this website.
Information kept on your device
Reason Along keeps child profiles locally. A profile includes a nickname, current and previous browsing focus years, and archive status. The app remembers local navigation choices, including the child most recently selected.
Starting a lesson saves the selected child’s place: the exact lesson and version, current stage, whether help has been shown, and session timestamps. Previewing alone does not create a saved session.
When you choose Save session, the app records the session date, lesson details, completion choice, next-session choice and any optional note. These records form History. They describe what you saved, not scores or assessments of learning.
The app also keeps a next lesson you choose for a child and local preferences used to show or dismiss return-visit guidance. These are navigation choices, not an assessed level or automatically recommended learning programme.
Notes are optional and limited to 500 characters. Use a nickname rather than a full name. Keep notes brief, factual and necessary; do not enter answers, scores, sensitive information or unnecessary personal details. A nickname or note can still identify a child.
Recording drafts and latest edits
Recording choices and notes are automatically kept on this device as a draft attached to their saved session. “Draft kept on this device” confirms acknowledged changes. “Keeping draft…” or “Latest changes are not yet kept” means newer edits may still exist only in the open window. Closing the window or app before acknowledgement can lose those newer edits.
A draft is not a History record or proof that a session took place. Review the proposed date and choices, renew required confirmations and explicitly choose Save session to create the History record and remove the draft. Recovery does not replay a lost Save. Another window may view the draft, but only one can edit it at a time.
Access and purchase information
The app keeps a local subscription clock checkpoint and purchase-related acknowledgement information used to check access. Free teaching comes from the same fixed starter collection for every profile; creating another profile adds no content. Where verified subscription event identifiers are supplied, they are pseudonymous purchase information. They may remain for the installation after a profile is deleted or a subscription expires and may be included in device backups. These identifiers do not by themselves establish current paid access.
Live subscriptions are not configured in the development version. Development purchase testing is separate from a live subscription service.
One purchasing Apple account’s verified entitlement can cover unlimited local child profiles on supported devices. Caregivers may share the app/device; another Apple account has no promised sharing. Restore purchases checks that purchase access. It does not recover child profiles, History, recording drafts or learning information from another device. There is no learning-data account or restore service.
Information the app does not send
Reason Along does not send child profiles, session records or notes to Redstone Services Limited or another service. It has no learning-data account, app analytics or automatic learning-data sync between devices.
Opening a website link contacts that website in your browser. The app does not attach child or session information to the link. Website visits are covered by the separate Website terms and privacy notice linked in this page’s footer.
Tips and reminders
The reviewed development source stores dismissed tips and an optional weekly reminder choice on this device, shared across windows; these preferences may be included in device backups. Reminders start off. Only explicit enablement requests alert permission, and denial does not block the app.
Alerts say “Time for a maths conversation?” without child or lesson details, sound or badge. They use your chosen local weekdays and time. Scheduled confirms pending requests, not display; Focus and system settings can affect delivery. Archive and profile deletion do not change the schedule. Turn reminders off in Reminders on Home to cancel future alerts; delivered notifications remain.
Device backups
Depending on your settings, a device backup may include profiles, saved sessions, recording drafts, next-lesson choices, History and local access information. The lesson library is configured to be excluded from backup. Reason Along has no backup or restore controls and cannot guarantee recovery from a device backup.
Keeping, correcting and deleting information
A recording draft has no timed expiry. Discard recording draft removes its choices and note while keeping the saved session. Save session creates the History record and removes the draft. Discard saved session removes the saved place and its recording draft and clears affected open-window forms, while keeping History. Stale edits left after another window records the session can only be reviewed or deliberately dismissed; they cannot create another occurrence.
Archive keeps the child’s profile, next-lesson choice, saved session, recording draft and History, but removes the child from teaching selection. Eligible draft review and recording of an occurrence remain separate from reopening paid teaching. Unarchive does not automatically select the child or resume a lesson.
Correct child moves a History record to another child without changing its date, lesson, choices, note or original session.
Delete profile and data removes the displayed profile-related information after confirmation, including the profile, next-lesson choice, saved session, recording draft and History records currently assigned to that child. Other children’s information is kept. Shared lesson details remain while another session or record needs them; installation-level access bookkeeping is separate.
Review the deletion scope before confirming. Cancellation or a confirmed failed write keeps the information; an uncertain result needs inspection before further changes. History does not expire automatically. The app has no general export or reset control. Deletion does not guarantee secure erasure or remove copies already in device backups. Deleting a profile does not cancel subscription billing.
Contacting support
When you email support@reasonalong.com, we receive the contact details, message and attachments you choose to send through Google Workspace. We use them to answer the enquiry and investigate the issue. Do not send a child’s nickname, session notes or unnecessary personal information.
Correspondence is separate from the app’s local records. We cannot retrieve your on-device information through a support request.
Questions and rights
You can ask us about information we hold about you and request access or correction. We may need to confirm your identity or authority to act for a child. Email support@reasonalong.com, or read the Support page. You can also raise a concern with New Zealand’s Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Changes
We will update this policy when the app’s information handling changes. The status and date above identify the version being presented. Redstone Services Limited is the app’s operator and privacy contact.
