Know what to do before, during and after.

A lesson gives you a starting point and a sequence—not a script you must rush through. Plan for around 15 minutes, and check the preparation before you begin.

Before

Choose a lesson. See what you need.

Browse by year and choose an idea to explore. Read the lesson’s purpose, materials and preparation before you start. You do not have to invent the lesson.

During

Follow the guide. Listen to the thinking.

Use the prompts and explanations as your child talks or tries the activity. The guide includes what to look for and help when needed. Pause or stop when that suits the conversation.

Afterwards

Leave a record for next time.

Choose Save session to keep your completion choice, next-session choice and an optional short note for the right child. History records your sessions, not a learning score.

A connection to school maths. A format for home.

We are building Reason Along’s lessons to address the learning statements in the 2025 New Zealand Mathematics and Statistics curriculum, generally in effect from 2026; the initial lesson range is Years 0–6.

The curriculum sets out the knowledge and practices taught across the school years. Reason Along is designed to give you a structured way to explore that maths together at home. Your child’s teacher decides the classroom programme; you choose the lesson for your conversation.

Choose a year to browse, then consider the lesson itself. You can revisit an idea or choose another starting point; the app does not test your child or assign a level.

Years 7–10 are planned as later expansion and are not currently available. No delivery date, price or future subscription entitlement is promised.

Reason Along complements school learning. It does not replace a teacher’s judgement or assess whether a child has met curriculum expectations.

Reason Along is independently developed and is not endorsed by the Ministry of Education.

Start at the year your child needs.

Use the free starters, repeat them whenever useful, then choose a subscription for the remaining catalogue and its authored next steps.

Six starters per year · Every child · Free

At launch, every child profile will have six fixed starter lessons at each of Years 0–6, with complete help, unlimited revisits, no expiry and no payment details.

Years 0–6 · Monthly or annual subscription

The planned subscription adds the remaining Years 0–6 catalogue and authored continuation sequences for all local child profiles under the purchasing Apple account, with no sibling fee or profile cap.

Planned New Zealand prices: NZ$9.99 per month or NZ$79.99 per year, including GST. Both provide the same access. No auto-converting trial. Live purchases are not yet available. The annual option charges NZ$79.99 for the year. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled through Apple before renewal.

Every profile receives the same starter collection; another profile unlocks no extra content. Profiles, History, reminders and saving a session are free. Reopening its teaching depends on that exact lesson’s access.

One purchasing Apple account’s verified subscription covers unlimited local child profiles on supported devices. Caregivers can share the app/device. Another Apple account has no promised sharing: Apple Family Sharing and cloud synchronisation are not included. Learning records stay on each device; Restore recovers purchase access, not those records.

If paid access ends, History and the saved place remain. Premium teaching stops, including within a saved session; eligible neutral recording remains available. Subscription options are an explicit choice outside teaching.

Questions before you begin.

Do I need to be confident at maths?

You do not have to make up a lesson. The guide provides prompts and explanations. Read the preparation, take your time and choose a different starting point when needed.

How much time and preparation will it take?

Lessons are designed for around 15 minutes, but that is a guide, not a deadline. Materials and preparation vary. Check what you need before starting, and pause or stop when appropriate.

Is this for my child to use alone?

No. Reason Along is for the adult leading the conversation, with your child taking part alongside you. The phone holds the guide; talking and thinking together are the point.

Which year should we start with?

Choose the year you want to explore and read the lesson’s preparation. You can browse another year or revisit an idea. The app does not assess your child or decide their learning level. See the practical walkthrough for the steps.

What does the app remember?

It keeps local profiles, saved sessions and the History records you choose to save. History is not a score. There is no learning-data account or automatic cross-device sync. Read the app privacy policy for drafts, backups and the full data explanation.

Have a question before launch?

Reason Along is in development and will launch with Years 0–6 lessons. Ask about the app or check the practical support guidance.
